Charles Hurd, Private, Co. G, 111th NYSVI

Pictured here is Pvt. Charles Hurd, 111th New York Infantry. At age 34 Hurd enlisted on August 5, 1862 in Company G, 111th Regiment NYSVI. He was wounded slightly at Gettysburg, wounded severely at the Wilderness, and discharged for disability January 23, 1865.

At Gettysburg, the 111th New York helped repulse Pickett's Charge and suffered 95 killed and mortally wounded.

The ID was written in period ink on the page of the album from which the CDV was taken. The photographer appears to be E. H. OLDS—printed very lightly on bottom of carte. His kepi on the column shows "111" on the crown.
