Charles A. Wilks, Private, Co. B, 184th NYSVI

 

Pictured here is Charles A. Wilks, Private, Company B, 184th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was a 22-year-old farmer when he enlisted on August 25, 1864. Not quite 2 months later he was wounded at Cedar Creek, Virginia, on October 19, 1864, and was hospitalized at McClellan General Hospital, Philadelphia. He returned to his regiment in early 1865 and was mustered out on June 29, 1865. The CDV is backmarked "Gray's Galley, Oswego, New York."
