Pictured here is Amos Brunson, Second Lieutenant, Company B, 85th New York Volunteer Infantry. The image was identified from Wayne Mahood’s book Plymouth Pilgrims. Brunson died of disease May 24, 1862 at Rose Cottage Hospital. The backmark is “C. M. Marsh, Photographer, Canandaigua, N. Y.”
His entry on page 2948, volume IV of Phisterer’s New York in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865 is as follows: BRUNSON, AMOS, age 21 years; enrolled August 26, 1861, at Canandaigua to serve three years; mustered in as Second Lieutenant, Company B, December 2, 1861; died of disease, May 24, 1862, at Rose Cottage Hospital, near Bottom Bridge, Va.; commissioned Second Lieutenant, January 7, 1862, with rank from October 23, 1861, original.
